Depends on who’s doing the dictating. A dictatorship of the people to stop the individualist, the single person looking out for what they alone want always at the cost of the needs of the majority, such as the ultra rich, such as the republicans. You said it yourself, scrap the party. Is keep the loons out of politics such a stretch from that?
Unfortunately our institutions aren’t free. They are by and for those who are allowed to succeed by those who have already succeeded. This is largely due to the relation of money to politics, and the fact that those with the most money buy our government. If whoever wants to join the government, they’re only allowed to succeed if they don’t represent a threat to the interests of those who bought our government. Bernie explained the dark money revolving door of favors pretty well, all he left out was exactly what happened to him. The odds were put against him with slanted media coverage, issues with polling stations, and in the end, the DNC straight up rigged the primary against him. They admitted to this in a NY court. Our institutions have never been free, but indeed should be. I think, if you present your ideas to the people and the people agree and want you to serve, it should be. This is not the way our country currently works sadly..
