Act Quickly to Earn 65,000 Bonus Miles With the Amex Delta SkyMiles Gold

If Delta is your airline of choice, getting one of its credit cards could be a smart move. You’ll be able to earn miles much more quickly since you’ll earn them on your regular credit card spending.

The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card is a popular pick, in part because it’s very affordable. There’s a $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $150 (See rates and fees.) This card is also currently running a big limited-time welcome offer, so you could earn even more bonus miles than usual — but only if you apply soon.

A limited-time welcome offer for the Amex Delta SkyMiles Gold

The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card has a welcome offer of 65,000 Bonus Miles bonus miles for spending $3,000 on purchases in the first 6 months. This welcome offer expires on July 17, 2024 (terms apply).

Like most airline miles, Delta miles don’t have a fixed value. The value you get depends on how you use them. They’re generally estimated to be worth $0.012 per mile. At that value, 65,000 Bonus Miles miles are worth $780.

That can vary quite a bit, though. You typically get more value when using miles for more expensive airfare, such as business class and first class.

More benefits

The welcome offer is one of many benefits you get from the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card. Here are more of its perks:

  • 2X miles on Delta purchases, at U.S. Supermarkets and at restaurants worldwide, including takeout and delivery in the U.S.
  • 1X miles on other purchases
  • A $200 Delta Flight Credit toward future travel after you spend $10,000 in purchases on your card during a calendar year
  • First checked bag free for up to nine passengers on your reservation
  • TakeOff 15 to save 15% when booking award travel on Delta flights booked on delta.com and the Fly Delta app (not applicable to partner-operated flights or to taxes and fees)
  • Zone 5 Priority Boarding on Delta flights
  • terms apply

If you use this card and fly with Delta regularly, you’ll almost certainly come out ahead on the annual fee. Just by spending $10,000 on it every calendar year, you’ll earn the $200 Delta Flight Credit. That alone is $50 more than the cost of this card’s annual fee.

Should you apply?

This card is most appropriate for Delta flyers who don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a credit card’s annual fee. If that’s you, then it could be a match.

There are a few situations where you may want to consider a different card. If you want premium perks with Delta, the more expensive Delta credit cards could be a better choice. Delta offers cards with annual companion certificates, that speed up the process to earning Medallion Status, and that provide access to Delta Sky Club® lounges. Those are benefits you won’t get from the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card.

Another situation when this Delta card isn’t the right choice is if you want flexible travel rewards. The miles you earn on this card will only be useful when flying with Delta. Check out other travel rewards cards if you want points you can use with multiple airlines and hotels.

If you’ve decided the Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card is right for you, make sure to apply before July 17, 2024. It’s a good opportunity to earn a larger welcome offer, so you wouldn’t want to miss it.
